Barcelona star Ronald Araújo holds the keys to the club’s plans for the January transfer window.

This comes amid confirmation that, in the case of the Uruguayan returning without problems from his recent spell away from the pitch, then Barcelona will not dip into the market.

Stopper Araújo has for his part not been spotted amongst the group at the Ciutat Esportiva for over a week now.

As much comes as he struggles to come to terms with the backlash stemming from his costly red card against Chelsea last Tuesday.

So badly has Araújo been affected, that the 26-year-old felt the need to ask for a spell away from Hansi Flick’s squad, to recharge mentally and emotionally.

And his wellbeing upon returning is expected to prove the decisive factor in the Blaugrana’s plans for the winter window.

As per a report from journalist Alfredo Martinez:

‘Unless the situation in the Araújo case gets complicated, if the player returns without complications in time, Barcelona will not sign anyone in this winter transfer window.’
