Barcelona have reached a total agreement with Eric Garcia to extend his contract until 2030 (h/t Mundo Deportivo).
The Spanish defender has rejected an offer from Paris Saint-Germain to commit his future to Barca. His current deal expires next summer.
Talks are in the final stages, and an official announcement could be expected before the end of the year.
The 24-year-old has earned his contract extension following his outstanding impact over the past couple of seasons.
He has become an almost indispensable figure in Hansi Flick’s squad, performing at his peak since moving to Camp Nou.
Last season, Garcia played a pivotal role in Barca’s domestic treble, bagging five goals and three assists in 45 appearances across all competitions.
His importance has grown even further this season, starting in 15 out of 18 games.
Garcia has become Flick’s Swiss-Army knife, showcasing his versatility to chip in as centre-back, full-back and defensive midfielder.
Against Athletic Bilbao last week on Barca’s return to Spotify Camp Nou, the Spaniard produced a solid display in the midfield, easing the absence of Frenkie de Jong and Pedri.
However, he was far from his best in the 3-0 humiliating defeat against Chelsea in the Champions League days ago.
Garcia makes up for his lack of physicality with his brilliant technical ability and reading of the game. He embodies Flick’s extreme high press and high line strategy.
He also showed his knack for scoring from the set pieces last season in big games against Real Madrid and Inter Milan.
Garcia will be key for Barca to find their consistency again and compete for multiple silverware this season.
