There was another notable development in the long-standing off-the-pitch battle between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid yesterday as the latter once again sent a report to UEFA, demanding punitive measures against the former for the Negreira Case. This action came a few days after UEFA had rejected another dossier from the Merengue club with the same aims.

It remains to be seen what implications this latest action from the white club would have for the Blaugranes. Meanwhile, the Catalans themselves have reacted strongly to Real Madrid’s action.

As Mundo Deportivo has reported, Barcelona themselves have now issued an official statement, in which they revealed that they have requested the President of La Liga, Javier Tebas, the President of RFEF, Rafael Louzan, and the head of the CTA to take action against the recently reelected President of the Madrid club, Florentino Perez in a formal letter.

The full statement published by the Blaugrana club went as follows:

“The president of FC Barcelona, Rafael Yuste y Abel, today sent a formal letter to the presidents of La Liga, Javier Tebas; the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Rafael Louzán; and the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA), Francisco Soto, regarding statements made by the president of Real Madrid CF, Florentino Pérez, during various public appearances on May 12 and 13. FC Barcelona urges La Liga, the RFEF, and the CTA to take action in response to Florentino Pérez’s statements.

FC Barcelona considers that these remarks, in addition to being false, seriously undermine the honor and image of the First Division league competition, as well as the refereeing body as a whole, and damage the reputation and credibility of Spanish professional football.

The Club urges the co-organizers of the competition and the referees to defend the reputation of their institutions—just as the Club recently did by filing a conciliation lawsuit—and asks the recipient entities, within the scope of their respective powers, to urgently adopt the appropriate institutional and legal measures against Mr. Pérez in order to defend the honor, integrity, and prestige of the institutions they represent and the competitions they organize.”

In this letter sent by Yuste, the Blaugranes have pointed towards the different accusations made by Perez in one of his recent press conferences and from one of his recent interviews to El Chiringuito. In these appearances, the Real Madrid president not only took aim at Barcelona, but also raised serious accusations against the competition and the officials.

In response to the Merengues appeal for measures against the Blaugrana club, the latter have now asked three domestic authorities to act against Florentino Perez. It remains to be seen whether any of these entities would actually be impacted by these actions in the end, but for now, the war between Barcelona and Real Madrid has only intensified.
