Barcelona are still awaiting the final diagnosis on Frenkie de Jong’s knee injury, but if the initial forecasts are confirmed, the club will soon begin receiving compensation from FIFA, reports Mundo Deportivo.
The Dutch midfielder is expected to undergo further medical tests before the Catalans issue an official statement.
However, early indications suggest the midfielder could be sidelined for around four months after suffering a significant injury to his right knee during the World Cup.
Barcelona were informed that De Jong played through pain during the latter stages of Netherlands’ brief stay at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Dutch midfielder is understood to have received injections before both the Tunisia and Morocco matches and was seen wearing heavy strapping on his right knee.

In the Round of 32 defeat to Morocco, De Jong remained on the pitch until the 110th minute before being substituted.
The injury was sustained while representing his national team, making Barcelona eligible for compensation under FIFA’s Club Protection Programme.
As per the report, Barcelona’s compensation will officially begin on July 28, exactly 28 days after the Netherlands’ final World Cup match.
Under FIFA regulations, clubs are compensated when players suffer injuries while on international duty, with payments starting after a 28-day waiting period.
The protection covers the period from the player’s injury until they receive medical clearance to return, provided the injury occurred during an official national team call-up.

FIFA’s Club Protection Programme provides compensation of up to €20,548 per day, with payments capped at 365 days and a maximum total of €7.5 million per player for a single injury. Overall, FIFA allocates up to €80 million per year to the programme.
If De Jong’s recovery follows the current estimate of approximately four months, Barcelona are expected to receive close to €2 million in compensation.
Indeed, based on the projected timeline, the payment would total roughly €1.95 million, assuming the midfielder returns to action around the middle of November.
While the financial compensation offers some relief, Barcelona’s priority remains De Jong’s recovery, with the club hoping the midfielder can return before the end of the calendar year.
