Barcelona maintain sale plans for midfielder despite Frenkie de Jong injury | OneFootball

After playing in the World Cup for the Netherlands with some pain, the midfielder was set to return to the Blaugrana club ahead of schedule to undergo medical tests.

The results of these tests have come out now, and although the worst fears of the Catalan club have fortunately not realized, the Dutchman is still suffering from a significant problem. He will now have to decide whether to undergo surgery or take conservative treatment to recover from this issue.

While it remains to be seen how this issue will impact the midfielder, his injury could also have had significant implications for another player, Marc Casado. The latter has been put on the market by Barcelona, and both the player and the club are waiting for suitable offers for him.

However, with Frenkie injured, there was the possibility of the Blaugrana side changing their plans about him to ensure they are not short of options in the midfield. However, according to MARCA, there is no change in Deco’s plans about the Spaniard, as the sporting director believes this is a good time to get a good price for Casado and they also have the Dutchman’s position well-covered in their squad.

Frenkie has played mostly as a partner of Pedri in the midfield, and for this role, Hansi Flick can turn to other players already available to him. He can play Marc Bernal in this role, while Gavi, who has also fully recovered from his problems and is currently playing in the World Cup with Spain, can be another option for him. Defenders like Eric Garcia and Andreas Christensen have also shown they can perform as defensive midfielders when needed.

Thus, the way forward for Marc Casado remains a departure from Barcelona, and Frenkie de Jong’s injury is not going to change the club’s plans a lot.
