La Liga champions Barcelona are awaiting a fresh gesture on the part of Atlético Madrid star Julián Alvarez, to push ahead with efforts to bring the Argentine to Catalunya’s capital.
This of course comes amid a summer-long pursuit of his signature on the part of the Blaugrana.
Alvarez has long been identified as Barca’s priority target to replace Robert Lewandowski as the attacking spearhead in Hansi Flick’s squad, considered the ideal fit in the all-action setup of the German tactician.
To date, however, Alvarez’s current employers, the aforementioned Atlético, have refused to budge in their stance that the 26-year-old is simply not for sale.
Whilst away on international duty at the World Cup, Alvarez publicly confirmed his hopes of moving on this summer, with sights on the Spotify Camp Nou.
And Barcelona are of the opinion that a similar gesture will be required before the summer is out, for the transfer to have a real chance of coming to fruition.
As per a report from Catalan outlet Esport3:
‘The great hope among the Barça leaders is that Álvarez will make a second gesture, publicly asking Atlético de Madrid to transfer him this summer. They are not sure that Julián will come forward again, but without this gesture they see it as practically impossible.’
