Earlier this week, reports emerged claiming that FC Barcelona director Deco held a meeting with the agents of Real Sociedad goalkeeper Alex Remiro.
It was claimed that the Blaugrana see the veteran Spaniard as an option to provide cover and competition for first-choice goalkeeper Joan Garcia.
Considering that his contract with Sociedad expires in 2027, the belief is that he could be available for a reasonable fee entering the final year of his deal.
However, contrary to those claims, MARCA reports that Barcelona are seriously considering signing Alex Remiro on a free transfer when his contract expires in 2027, as part of their long-term goalkeeping plan.
Indeed, Remiro’s arrival would not be immediate. Barcelona are targeting him for the 2027-2028 season, when he would be available on a free transfer.
He currently has one and a half years remaining on his contract, and signing him earlier would require a transfer fee estimated at around €15 million.

Given the club’s financial situation and other transfer priorities, such an operation would be difficult to complete in the short term.
Barcelona continue to face limitations related to financial fair play and have not yet returned to the 1:1 rule. More importantly, other transfer priorities take precedence.
The main objective is to sign a centre-forward, a position that typically requires significant investment. In addition, the club are also working on the permanent transfer of Marcus Rashford and planning the recruitment of a central defender.
As a result, the move for Remiro is expected to be postponed until the summer of 2027.
There have already been contacts between the club and the player, dating back to before Barcelona signed Joan Garcia.
Although those initial discussions did not lead to an agreement, the interest remains active. Deco’s intention is to have two top-level goalkeepers, pairing Joan Garcia with Remiro in the future.
