Bayer Leverkusen’s Amine Adli out until at least late January with a fractured fibula

Bayer Leverkusen have announced that forward Amine Adli will be out until at least late January with a fractured fibula that he suffered during their 1-1 draw with Brest in the Champions League.

Adli had surgery on his leg yesterday and will now begin his rehabilitation at the BayArena. The timeline for Adli’s recovery will be at the earliest January if everything goes well. The fracture happened after a challenge from Soumaila Coulibaly forced Adli off in the 81st minute just under 20 minutes after he had been brought on.

Sky Germany reports that the club will still look to offer him a contract extension despite the injury.

On Adli’s injury, head coach Xabi Alonso said:

“Amine’s injury is a big loss for us. He is a very important player and a very important influence in the squad. We all value him very much. I spoke to him yesterday after the operation and he was fine.”

The 24-year-old has struggled this season for Leverkusen having featured 12 times for the club, mainly off of the bench, and has yet to score or assist.

Leverkusen is well-stocked on the attacking front to replace Adli. Away from starters Victor Boniface and Florian Wirtz, die Werkself have Nathan Tella, Martin Terrier, Jonas Hofmann and Patrik Schick who can fill in. However, apart from Tella, none of the other options will be able to match the speed and dynaism that the Moroccan brings off of the bench.
