Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund has insisted Harry Kane could sign a new contract at the club.

Kane has enjoyed a stunning start to the season in Germany, already registering 11 goals and three assists in just six Bundesliga matches.

The England captain also has four goals in two Champions League appearances, including a brace against Chelsea.

Kane's run of form has come amid speculation that he could return to the Premier League next summer.

Tottenham have a first-refusal clause in place that would give them an opportunity to bring the 32-year-old back to north London if he decides to leave Germany.

However, Freund played down the likelihood of that happening, suggesting that Kane could remain at the club beyond the end of his current contract in 2027.

"We're probably witnessing the best version of Harry Kane there has ever been," Freund told Sky Germany.

"He's a perfect player for us, and Harry feels very comfortable in Munich, with the team and his family. That's why we hope he'll stay in Munich for a few more years."

Pressed on how long he expects Kane to remain at Bayern, Freund added: "It's still too early to discuss it in detail. I think both sides can easily imagine continuing together beyond the end of the current contract."

Kane is understood to have a release clause in his Bayern contract of £56.7million, but it is only active next summer if Kane informs the Bundesliga champions he wants to leave by the end of the January transfer window.

The striker is said to be on wages of around £400,000-a-week, which could make a deal difficult for Spurs, but Thomas Frank made it clear last month that he would be keen to have Kane at the club.

"I think there’s a lot of Tottenham fans, including myself, who would like to see Kane back," Frank said.

"He’s a top player. Personally, I don't think he will do it right now, if I’m honest. He’ll probably stay in Bayern and continue performing well.

"He was top scorer last year and won the championship, he’s doing fantastic now. I don’t know what he’s thinking.

"Myself, I’m a traveller, I like to travel, I like to explore things as well. He’s been here for many years so why not enjoy the time at Bayern a little bit more.

"But he’s welcome. If he wants to join us, he’s more than welcome."
