Benfica head coach Bruno Lage has on Friday confirmed interest on the part of Spanish football’s two leading clubs in the signature of Álvaro Carreras.
Carreras, for his part, is in the midst of a stellar individual campaign to date.
Continuing to emerge as one of the standout performers in Portuguese football, the 22-year-old has racked up 47 appearances across all competitions with Benfica.
And along the way, Carreras has chipped in with an impressive haul of four goals and five assists.
Such exploits have not gone at all unnoticed across the continent, with the left-back understood to have made his way onto the radar of a number of Europe’s leading clubs.
And amongst them, it would appear, are both Real and Atlético Madrid.
Speaking during an appearance in front of the media on Friday, Benfica boss Bruno Lage was drawn on the excellent form being enjoyed by Carreras at present.
And the tactician made use of the opportunity to both credit himself for as much, and confirm mounting interest from Spain for the defender:
“When I arrived here, Carreras was a failure, today Atlético and Real Madrid are interested in him.”
