According to Glorioso 1904, Benfica are looking to negotiate the summer departure of Joshua Wynder. Rui Costa is waiting for a favourable offer before concluding any deal.
The 21-year-old United States youth international, like Rodrigo Rêgo, is not in the club’s plans for 2026/27. The priority is to find a definitive solution for the centre-back.
Signed in 2023 as a long-term prospect, Wynder arrived with clear potential but has not established himself as hoped. Club figures believe his cycle at the Luz is close to its end.
A serious injury led to a lengthy lay-off during a key period for his development, hampering his bid to break through. While Benfica still see qualities in him, a change of scene this window is viewed as best for all.
Benfica favour a permanent sale, though the hierarchy led by Rui Costa remain open to offers and believe there is interest in Portugal and abroad. The final strategy will depend on the market and proposals received, and indications are that he will not be in next season’s squad.
