Benfica talent opens door to Real Madrid move | OneFootball

Real Madrid have continually suffered from a lack of quality options in the fullback department in recent years.

At the moment too, they are struggling at right-back after Dani Carvajal’s injury and have Fran Garcia as the only available left-back after setbacks to Ferland Mendy and David Alaba.

The coming summer transfer window will thus be crucial in reinforcing both fullback positions. Trent Alexander-Arnold is the top target to arrive at right-back but there is no clarity over who the club will pursue at left-back.

The option in Portugal

Benfica full-back Alvaro Carreras has been widely linked with Real Madrid in recent weeks as one of the possible candidates to sign as a reinforcement in the department, especially after Alphonso Davies ended up renewing in Bavaria.

Now, journalist Guillermo Rai (h/t The Madrid Zone) brings to light that Carreras would be delighted to join Real Madrid this summer and is thus open to the move. This comes as music to the ears of the Real Madrid administration.

Further, it was relayed earlier this week that Carreras is a top target even for the team’s rumoured next manager Xabi Alonso and that the tactician sees him to be a vital part of his plans in Madrid.

The 22-year-old is seen as one of the most talented young fullbacks in the game and is contractually tied to Benfica until 2029. There is, however, a buyout clause set at €50 million that Real Madrid can avail.

So far this season, the Benfica star has made 30 league appearances for the Portuguese side and has three goals and an assist to his name. He averages 1.1 key passes per game and has created two big chances.
