Benfica ‘to consider’ Erik Lira after Mexico display against Portugal | OneFootball

Erik Lira has been linked with Benfica after his 77-minute outing for Mexico in the 29 March draw with Portugal.

According to Medio Tiempo, the 25-year-old has been watched by Benfica’s scouting staff and is on the radar of several European clubs, including Benfica and Feyenoord, with Lens viewed as the most attentive.

The report adds there is no formal offer for the Cruz Azul midfielder. He is currently the club’s highest-valued player at 12 million euros.

Lira’s performance is said to have caught the eye of Benfica representatives, who could keep his name in mind when assessing potential reinforcements for next season. Defensive midfield has been a relatively thin area for Benfica.

This season he has made 38 appearances for Cruz Azul across the Apertura, Clausura, CONCACAF Champions Cup, League Cup and FIFA International Cup, scoring one goal in 3,158 minutes.
