Filipe Luís has emerged as a candidate for the Benfica job, with José Mourinho’s possible move to Real Madrid still a live scenario.
RTI Esporte reports that the 40-year-old Brazilian is an option to succeed the Portuguese coach and has been unattached since leaving Flamengo in March.
He began his head coaching career in 2024 and swiftly delivered major trophies in Brazil, guiding Flamengo to the Libertadores, Brasileirão, Taça do Brasil and Supertaça.
His profile is said to appeal within Benfica’s hierarchy, notably his age, playing philosophy and capacity for growth, making him a potential fit for a continuity project if a change is required.
Even so, there are no talks under way. Benfica are keeping several avenues open, with the outlook dependent on Mourinho’s final decision and Real Madrid’s interest, which remains the key source of instability.
