Benoît Tavenot is still without a win this season. Bottom club Metz host Toulouse on Sunday at 17:15, offering the coach a chance to halt a nightmare run.
As reported by L'Équipe, he was dismissed by Bastia on 30 October and took charge at Metz on 20 January. Across his spells with Bastia and Metz this season he has 13 defeats and five draws from 18 matches, with only eight goals scored and 30 conceded.
On 28 October 2025, after a 0-2 defeat at Nancy, he said Bastia were in a very bad way and needed to win again.
His last victory dates back to 10 May 2025, a 2-1 win for Bastia against Caen on the final day of the 2024-2025 Ligue 2 season. He had started this campaign at Bastia with 11 without a win, just four goals and four points, seven defeats and four draws.
After Metz lost 0-3 at Lens last Sunday, he accepted he was primarily responsible and admitted the team’s level was far from enough. He said he had alternated systems, personnel and the intensity of training, with little change in results.
He maintained he is not fatalistic and remains in the fight, but said he needs consistency in performances. He is convinced that a first win would give them a lift, yet stressed they must find it quickly.
