As the Bleus head to the United States for two friendlies, the very likely next France coach Zinédine Zidane has been quietly shaping his backroom team.

Speaking to Le Figaro on Sunday, FFF president Philippe Diallo said, "Oui, je connais le nom" of the next coach, and outlined the legend’s profile. Zidane values discretion and has been building in recent weeks.

Central to his plans is David Bettoni, 54, Zidane’s long-time confidant since Cannes. He is expected to design sessions and debate tactics, with Zidane choosing the XI. Their partnership is widely seen as complementary.

Hamidou Msaidie, 50, a physio and fasciatherapist by training, worked as a versatile aide at Real Madrid. He could run drills, liaise with medical staff on injuries and prepare motivational videos, reflecting a broad skill set.

Zidane rarely stacks assistants, yet he knows he will need lieutenants and draw on FFF resources. Bernard Diomède, 52, the Under-19 coach and a close ally, could be one given his knowledge of the talent pool.

Stéphane Plancque, 65, an old Bordeaux team-mate who later analysed opponents for Real Madrid, is trusted by Zidane and Bettoni. Zidane wants data support, possibly from within.

The performance and medical brief is pivotal after recurring debates. Zidane worked with Grégory Dupont, 53, at Real and for France in 2018, but he now serves as Red Star’s director of football in Ligue 2.

Security and communications also matter. Mohamed Sanhadji, 57, hopes to stay, and Jacques Bungert will monitor messaging.
