Following the end of the season’s first international break, Barcelona will look to restart their campaign as they take on Valencia at Estadi Johan Cruyff on Sunday.

This will be followed by a Champions League opener against Newcastle United, with the Catalans slated to travel to St James’ Park on Thursday.

Newcastle United will be a tough opponent as the Magpies have asserted themselves in the Premier League with their financial muscle. However, heading into this particular affair, NUFC will be heading without the services of two key players in Yoane Wissa and Jacob Ramsey.

Wissa and Ramsey could miss Barcelona game

As reported by SPORT, Wissa is likely to miss the Barcelona game owing to an injury he sustained earlier this summer.

This was confirmed by NUFC coach Eddie Howe, stating, “Unfortunately, he won’t be able to play this game. I saw him for the first time yesterday, and he’s still feeling the strain from the injury he picked up just before heading out. We’ll have to see how he feels.”

Howe’s statement came just before Newcastle’s game against Wolverhampton Wanderers, which suggests that Wissa has been definitely ruled out this weekend.

Along with Nick Woltemade and Anthony Elanga, Wissa was one of Newcastle United’s three big attacking signings this summer. Howe suggested that the striker’s fitness will be monitored heading into the Barcelona game.

Another key absentee for the Magpies will be Jacob Ramsey, who picked up a knock against Leeds United and has been ruled out until the next international break.

“Jacob is our only other injury concern, and he will miss the game. He suffered a tackle against Leeds, his ankle swelled up at half-time, and he had to come off. Sadly, I think he’ll be out until the next international break, so it’s a big blow,” Howe said.

These injuries come at a turbulent time for Newcastle United, who have yet to win a single game in the Premier League this season, racking up just two points in three matches.
