Corinthians are managing a period of transition in their squad as the Brazilian top flight takes a break for the upcoming Super Mundial. Three names are at the centre of recent movements: attacker Giovane, midfielder Alex Santana, and defender Gustavo Henrique.

Giovane, a 21-year-old product of Corinthians’ academy, has parted ways with the club after being released from training duties ahead of his contract’s expiry on 31 July. Despite being offered a renewal, the striker and the club could not reach an agreement. This impasse, which began under former coach Ramón Díaz last October, resulted in Giovane being sidelined for extended periods. Following sparse appearances under Díaz and his successor, Giovane played his last game for Corinthians in early April against Huracán in the Copa Sudamericana, failing to make an impact as Corinthians lost at home. In total, he made 47 senior appearances, scoring three goals and providing one assist. Giovane’s next destination is yet to be decided; he has been eligible to sign a pre-contract with another club since January.

In midfield, Alex Santana has concluded his brief spell at Corinthians by joining Grêmio on loan until the end of the year. Santana posted a farewell message to supporters and staff, acknowledging both their encouragement and criticism during his year in São Paulo: “You make everything happen. My most sincere thanks to you all.” The terms of the deal involve a $100,000 loan fee paid by Grêmio, who will cover Santana’s salary for the duration of the loan. A purchase clause is set at $2 million, should the Porto Alegre club wish to retain him beyond this season. Since arriving last July, Santana made 37 appearances, scored twice, and was part of the squad that lifted the Paulista title. However, he never cemented a regular starting place and sought increased minutes elsewhere.

On the injury front, there is optimism about the return of centre-back Gustavo Henrique, who is nearing the end of a physical recovery program following hernia surgery. Out for five weeks after his latest injury setback, Henrique is being evaluated daily and could potentially rejoin the squad for the crucial league fixture against Grêmio prior to the break. Head coach Dorival Júnior has depended on Cacá and André Ramalho in his absence but is reportedly keen to have his first-choice defender available.

Off the pitch, Corinthians have planned a structured break during the league hiatus. Players will receive 15 days of leave after the next match, returning on 28 June for an extended training camp at the CT Joaquim Grava. The club is investing in further upgrades to the facility, and the technical staff are considering scheduling at least one training match to keep the squad sharp before league action resumes.
