Borussia Dortmund ‘have enquired about’ Lazio left-back Nuno Tavares | OneFootball

Nuno Tavares is expected to leave Lazio this month. Fussballeuropa.com reports Borussia Dortmund have enquired about the 25-year-old.

Tavares was one of Marco Baroni’s key players in the first half of last season, but muscle injuries checked his progress. This term he has lost his starting spot after costly errors, notably against Roma and Bologna.

Lazio have made the left-back available for transfer. He has admirers including Al-Ittihad and Besiktas, with the latter widely seen as leading the race. Talks with the Turkish club are said to have stalled, potentially opening the door for Dortmund.

Dortmund are understood to have made only an initial enquiry, with no negotiations yet with Lazio or the player’s entourage. The Bundesliga side want a left wing-back, with Daniel Svensson the only specialist. Julian Ryerson has operated on both flanks, while Ramy Bensebaini has mostly featured as a left centre-back.

Lazio are keen to move Tavares on in January to accelerate Alvaro Pedraza’s arrival. The 29-year-old has signed a pre-contract with the Biancocelesti and is set to join next summer when his Villarreal deal expires. The club still hope to buy him this month at a cut-price.
