Borussia Dortmund’s search for a successor to Nuri Sahin continues. Ruhr Nachrichten report that BVB officials flew to Salzburg on Monday to undergo talks with Niko Kovac in order to try and convince the Croat to become the club’s next coach.
Both Lars Ricken and Sebastian Kehl are in favour of appointing the former Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayern Munich, AS Monaco and Wolfsburg head coach and, per RN, contact was made last week. After Kovac rejected a first offer to become head coach on an interim basis, club officials flew to Salzburg, where the 53-year-old currently resides.
A six-month contract is currently being discussed but, if talks are successful, that could be extended heading into the 2025/26 season.
As of now, Borussia Dortmund have already confirmed that Mike Tullberg will take charge of the Champions League game against Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday night, but it’s entirely possible that an interim coach could be appointed prior to Dortmund’s Bundesliga game against Heidenheim on Saturday.
