A game dictated by the weather saw Brentford play with the wind and rain in their favour in the first half, before facing it after the break.
The west Londoners created a number of half-chances early on through Karina Hlek, Georgia Wood and Freya Morgan but all were unable to truly test the Richmond Park goalkeeper, with many efforts gbeing saved comfortably.
Despite the control in the opening stages and throughout much of the first half, Richmond Park remained resilient and organised, standing up well to the challenge.
The breakthrough came just before half-time though as a cross-field ball bounced over the defence into the path of Paula Holguin, who took a touch outside the box before calmly lobbing the goalkeeper to give Brentford the lead heading into the break.
The away side came out with renewed intent in the second half, taking the game to the home side.
However, Brentford doubled their advantage shortly after. A well-worked team move involving Hlek, Petit and Morgan down the right-hand side led to a driven cross from Hlek to the back post, where Matthews was on hand to tap in from close range.
With a two-goal cushion, the Bees managed the game effectively to secure the victory as the west Londoners secured their place in the last four of the competition.
The Bees now turn their attention back to league action, where they have the opportunity to secure the title this weekend at Bedfont Sports Club against Holmesdale Keets.
