Claims that Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey is poised to leave for about £34 million have been dismissed, with the club not under any immediate pressure to sell.
FootballTransfers reported he would depart this summer for around €40 million after Bayern Munich were linked with strong interest, but, at present, that assertion is viewed as wide of the mark.
There is no deal for Brobbey to exit and no indication Bayern have lodged an official bid. Suggestions the Dutchman is actively heading out have been rubbished despite external noise.
Brobbey joined from Ajax last summer for about €20 million, signing a five-year contract that leaves Sunderland in a strong position if interest emerges. He has scored six goals and provided an assist in his first Premier League campaign.
A significant offer could yet reshape matters as the window nears.
The forward hit a late winner at Newcastle United at St James’ Park, then impressed against Tottenham Hotspur after the international break. Head coach Le Bris has noted clear strides in Brobbey’s fitness, understanding with team-mates and threat through the middle. His move was completed on deadline day after loanee Marc Guiu returned to Chelsea during an injury crisis.
