Argentina football legend Oscar Ruggeri has called on former Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho to “stop being so full of himself” as he aims to get his career back on track.

Garnacho enduring slow start to life at Chelsea

Garnacho permanently departed United during the summer transfer window after his relationship with Ruben Amorim irreparably broke down.

The forward was part of the infamous ‘bomb squad’ and after weeks of uncertainty over his future, he finally sealed a dream £40m transfer to Chelsea.

So far, it doesn’t seem like Garnacho made the right decision. While it’s still very early in his career at Stamford Bridge, the signs are not very encouraging.

He has managed just one goal from his 331 minutes across seven appearances for the Blues. He scored against Sunderland last weekend but it didn’t count for too much as Chelsea suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the newly-promoted outfit.

There has been some frustration over Garnacho’s performances and now, Ruggeri has said that the 21-year-old must first fix his attitude.

Argentina legend launches Garnacho attack

Ruggeri, who won the World Cup with Argentina back in 1986, told ESPN about Garnacho, “He’s no better than anyone else.”

“You’re a football player, enjoy it, but you shouldn’t be so full of yourself.”

“It’s pointless because you miss out on so much. Someone has to bring him down to earth.”

The former defender added, “They’re not calling him up to the national team. If he comes back down to earth like he was, they’ll call him up again because he’s phenomenal on the pitch.”

Garnacho has earned eight caps for the Albiceleste, although he has not been called up by Lionel Scaloni since November 2024.

There is no doubt he will be keen to find form at the right time ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
