The Robins have enjoyed an amazing 2025 thus far, a year that saw them record their first play-off finish in 17 years.

Despite failing to progress past the semi-final stage of the play-offs, Bristol City look like an arguably more competitive outfit this season under new boss Gerhard Struber, following Liam Manning’s departure for Norwich City.

City sit fourth in the second tier standings after 12 matches, just three points behind Middlesbrough in second and are on a run of three successive victories.

The most recent of these came against Birmingham City, which led the Robins to take a dig at Blues via social media.

Coming into the contest, Birmingham hadn’t been on the best run of form, picking up just one win in their last five matches, which came in a clash away at Preston North End that saw Blues come off on the better side of a few contentious decisions.

Bristol City, on the other hand, approached the clash full of confidence, with their impressive performances reinforcing belief within their camp that another play-off campaign could be on the horizon.

Naturally, it was the Robins who came out on top, with Sinclair Armstrong’s first-half strike enough to clinch all three points for Struber’s side. In light of this victory, City’s social media account decided to poke fun at Blues’ American ownership and involvement with Tom Brady.

They uploaded a picture of Brady, who is a minority owner of Birmingham, lying on a bed with posters of match-winner Armstrong covering the surrounding walls. This was of great amusement to Bristol City supporters, who were delighted to see their side win again.

“Outstanding work admin x,” commented one happy fan.

“Give admin a pay rise,” demanded another.

"Unreal," said another Bristol City fan.

There were even supporters from Birmingham City’s camp who could appreciate the humorous nature of said post and laughed along with the Robins’ fans.

“Fair play,” conceded one of the St. Andrew’s faithful.

“Class KRO,” appreciated another.

Bristol City have emerged as real play-off contenders

After last season’s success, many people questioned whether Bristol City could continue their form into the new term, especially after Manning’s departure.

Those questions have now evaporated, with the Robins showing on the pitch that if anything, they’ve grown in competitiveness when compared to the 2024/25 campaign.

A third straight victory shows that City are now starting to gain momentum, which is crucial for any team looking to finish in the play-off positions come May.

Only high-flying Coventry City have scored more goals than Struber’s side thus far, which highlights just how well the Austrian has got his new side attacking.

If the Robins can keep performing at a high level and perhaps even improve slightly more as the season progresses, there is a real chance that they could enjoy successive play-off campaigns for the first time in their history.
