With Birmingham City in the midst of a journey from League One to, hopefully, the Premier League, there's plenty of scope for a few fan favourites to emerge.

Players who come up through the leagues with one club are seen as cult heroes, such as John Fleck at Sheffield United, or Pelly Ruddock-Mpanzu at Luton Town, to give a couple of examples.

Birmingham have had to create cult heroes and all-time greats through different means to that in their past, but given how passionate and connected their fanbase is, it hasn't been difficult.

However, with them now looking at returning to the Premier League for the first time since 2011, those who get them there will be heralded as modern-day legends, especially if they had been at the club from the start of the journey.

With Birmingham's ambitions and spending power, the squad has been subject to much change and those who helped the club to promotion haven't neccesarily been nailed-on in the Championship under Chris Davies, but there is still room for current members of the squad to establish themselves as legendary figures with Blues in the years to come.

Birmingham City fan pundit compares Christoph Klarer to one of the Championship greats

Curtis Davies may have only spent a few seasons at St Andrew's throughout his lengthy career, which is perhaps better known for memorable stays with Hull City and Derby County, but he's regarded by many as one of the Championship's greatest ever defenders, and is well-respected by Birmingham fans.

FLW's Blues fan pundit, Jason Moore, feels that it may not be long before current captain Christoph Klarer is on that Birmingham pedestal, too.

When asked if there was any current player who reminds him of a Blues cult hero, Moore said: "The only one who comes to mind at the moment is Christoph Klarer, as he reminds me of Curtis Davies.

"A no-nonsense defender, he wins all of his headers and is consistently a seven out of 10 every game.

"It's hard to call Davies a cult hero, because he wasn't here for too long, but while he was here, he was fantastic, and well-remembered by Blues fans.

"You could maybe say Jay Stansfield and Mikael Forssell, but I'm probably clutching at straws there, so I'll go with Davies and Klarer as my answer."

Christoph Klarer will be looking to go one better than Curtis Davies at Birmingham City and achieve promotion

It was at Birmingham that Davies showed he was ready to play in the Premier League. Unfortunately, he was unable to do so with the Blues, however, as his two-and-a-half year stay with the club ended when Hull City brought him to the top flight in 2013.

Davies became Birmingham's captain during his first full season at the club, and led out his side in the Championship's play-offs, where they lost to Blackpool.

Klarer has also emerged as the captain of the club after former skipper Krystian Bielik was dropped to the bench last season and then sold this past summer, and the Austrian will be looking to do the same as what Davies did during his time at St Andrew's, just instead, ending it with Premier League success.

Birmingham haven't lived up to their lofty expectations yet this season, but if Chris Davies' side can ride this sticky patch of form and get back to where many thought they'd be challenging this season and even achieve that back-to-back promotion, everyone in that side will be put in the history books.
