According to The Athletic, Bruno Guimaraes has informed Newcastle he wants to leave this summer and prefers a move to Arsenal. The report adds the English champions would be prepared to offer up to 70 million euros to sign the former Lyon midfielder.
The report says Newcastle rejected an initial verbal approach from Arsenal in June. No formal contact has taken place between the clubs. Guimaraes is under contract until 2028 after arriving from Lyon in 2022.
Following Sandro Tonali’s switch to Tottenham, Newcastle could now lose another key figure in midfield.
Lyon are monitoring the situation. The club sold Guimaraes to Newcastle for 42 million euros, excluding bonuses, and kept 20% of any profit on a future sale. That profit will be calculated from 50 million euros because the bonuses were triggered.
A fee of 70 million euros would hand Lyon roughly 4 million euros from the sell-on clause.
