Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim gave an honest review of his side’s 2-2 draw with Everton tonight, singling out several players in particular.

While Man United came away with the Premier League Summer Series trophy, the team was disappointed to be held to a 2-2 draw with the Toffees despite dominating much of the game.

The overall team performance

“Let’s talk about the tour, I think it was really important for us, it was perfect for us, because we had time to work. In the end, we have a feeling that we have to do a lot of work still,” Amorim explained, pulling no punches in his critique of his team.

“It was a good tour – today, we didn’t play quite well. We struggled especially with the buildup. We struggled with long balls and second balls from the opponents, so we have a lot to do.”

The standout player

While Bruno Fernandes grabbed a goal and an assist, it was Mason Mount who got an honourable mention by Amorim in his post-match TV interview.

“He does everything 100%. Every training, every game, he’s always the same player. For you to maintain the consistency, you have to work, and he works a lot.”

Still, he also dedicated some time to shine a light on Bryan Mbeumo, who made his debut for the club.

Amorim on Mbeumo

“I think he played well, of course, he needs to improve in a lot of things,” Amorim explained.

“You can feel that the physicality of Bryan is not perfect. That is normal, but the first touch, the way he turns, to connect with the other guys, the runs that he made is really important.”

“He’s going to be really important in our team,” Amorim concluded, revealing his high expectations for Mbeumo.

With one pre-season match to go – a home game against Fiorentina – Mbeumo will be raring to prove himself further.

Of course, given Amorim’s assessment, it seems that Mbeumo could have a major responsibility for United in the season to come.
