Burnley and Leeds United have both secured automatic promotion to the Premier League following big wins on Monday.

Burnley confirmed their promotion with a 2-1 victory over Sheffield United, whilst earlier in the day Leeds emphatically beat Stoke 6-0, climbing to the top of the Championship with 94 points and only two matches left to play.

For Leeds’ promotion to be guaranteed, Burnley needed to avoid defeat against third-placed Sheffield United, which they successfully achieved. As a result, Burnley are also on 94 points, meaning both sides have confirmed their places in next season’s top flight.

Leeds’ promotion marks a significant achievement under manager Daniel Farke, who has now secured his third promotion to the Premier League. He previously achieved the feat twice with Norwich City.

The Peacocks’ attacking prowess was on full display, with Joel Piroe scoring four goals in the match and bringing his season tally to 19.

Burnley’s return to the Premier League comes after a season characterised by defensive solidity and consistency. Under manager Scott Parker, the team has conceded only 15 goals in 44 games, a remarkable defensive record.

Captain Josh Brownhill played a pivotal role in yesterday’s game, scoring both goals against Sheffield United.

Burnley Chairman Alan Pace was full of praise for Parker after the game, saying: “I can’t say enough about the job he’s done. We had a long conversation in Portugal about what we wanted to do together and he’s outperformed anything he could have possibly said that night.

“I can only say that he’s a living legend and he’s shown multiple times that he knows how to handle this league and how to bring a group of men together and accomplish great things. Even when there was negativity early in the season from others, it never stopped him.

“He’s amazing and we are so, so grateful and thankful and blessed to have him here.”

The Clarets will be hoping next season brings more success than the 2023/24 season, when they finished 19th in the Premier League under Vincent Kompany.

For Leeds, next season will mark their return to the top level of English football for the first time since the 2022/23 campaign.
