The defender has been out of action since December of last year, last playing in a 3-2 loss to Aston Villa in the Premier League.

He made 15 appearances for the club in the top flight last season, but injury meant he was unavailable for the second half of the campaign (all stats from Fbref).

The 24-year-old had initially been out injured following meniscus surgery in October, but returned to the team in November, making several appearances before ultimately going back on the sidelines.

It remains to be seen when he will play for Burnley again, having not been involved with Scott Parker’s side so far this season as he continues to recover to full fitness.

Beyer has issued a message to supporters to provide an update on the situation surrounding his fitness.

The centre-back has confirmed that he has undergone a second surgery following complications he suffered during recovery, and that he is looking forward to eventually making his comeback.

“It’s been a while since you last heard from me and I’ve been getting a lot of questions lately which I want to address,” wrote Beyer, via Instagram.

“As you know, I’ve been out now for some time, so I just wanted to give you an update.

“I underwent small surgery last October on my meniscus and returned to play quickly without any incidents.

“I played for two months again until a very unlikely post-surgery circumstances occurred.

“The problem is fixable but took very long to be discovered, which was just unfortunate because it is so rare and gave me a really tough time mentally.

“Therefore I underwent a second surgery today which was very successful and should fix the problem but will keep me out until next year.

“I’m missing the game so much but I’m fighting to be back on the pitch as quickly as possible and can’t wait to celebrate with the team, club and you fans again.”

Beyer’s teammates issue response to injury message

A number of Beyer’s teammates, both current and former, have responded to the message, including Brownhill, Berge and Barnes.

“Can’t wait for you to be back dribbling past attackers,” responded Brownhill.

“Speedy recovery mate, your [sic] be back before you know it, stay strong you got this my friend,” wrote Barnes.

Meanwhile, Berge replied with a heart and a flexed biceps emoji to show his support for his former teammate.

No immediate timeframe has been given for when we can expect to see Beyer back in the Burnley squad.

Beyer injury situation will be difficult to fully recover from

Beyer needing a second surgery is a big setback for him, and this last year or so must have been quite difficult for him.

Being out of the game for so long is tricky for players, and it could take him some time to get back up to speed properly, even once he is back and ready to play again.

Burnley will have to manage without him for another while yet, most likely.

Fortunately for Parker, he has plenty of defensive options to choose from in Beyer’s absence, with John Egan joining this week as a free agent to further bolster their squad.
