A dramatic Premier League contest at Molineux ended in despair for Wolves as Burnley claimed a 2-3 victory with a 95th minute winner from Lyle Foster. It was Burnley’s first away win of the season and a result that leaves Wolves rooted to the foot of the table, winless and searching for answers. The evening served up goals, defiance, missed opportunities and deep frustration from the home crowd, who again directed their anger towards the board.
Wolves showed resilience after falling two goals behind, yet they lacked the composure and discipline required to complete the turnaround. Burnley, sharper in key moments and more ruthless in the closing minutes, snatched the points and moved five clear of the relegation zone.
Burnley began with clarity of purpose and were rewarded with an early breakthrough. Zian Flemming, displaying superb technique, struck a first time volley that silenced Molineux and triggered dissent in the stands. The discontent grew louder when Flemming doubled Burnley’s lead, finishing another well worked move and exposing Wolves’ defensive frailties.
Wolves needed a moment to shift momentum, and they found it when Josh Cullen mistimed a challenge on Santiago Bueno. Jorgen Strand Larsen stepped up and converted the penalty, giving the hosts a lifeline. Wolves rediscovered energy, pressed with intent and drew level before the break. Marshall Munetsi rose highest to head home in first half stoppage time, capping a spirited recovery that had seemed unlikely ten minutes earlier.
With the game poised at 2-2, Wolves had the opportunity to build on their momentum. The atmosphere was tense, and Burnley were pinned back for spells as the home side sought a decisive goal. Jhon Arias came closest, seeing a free kick cannon off the bar with goalkeeper Martin Dubravka beaten. It was a moment that encapsulated Wolves’ frustration, so near to taking the lead, yet ultimately denied.
Burnley stayed organised, patient and ready to counter. As the match edged towards a draw, they found the decisive strike. Foster, introduced from the bench, reacted quickest in the 95th minute to slot home and complete a 2-3 win that felt like a significant step forward for Scott Parker’s side. Dubravka then produced a late save from Bueno to protect the points, ensuring Burnley recorded their first Premier League away victory since April 2024.
The final whistle was met with anger and disillusionment. Wolves players appeared to exchange heated words with supporters, while chants of “sacked in the morning” were directed at manager Vitor Pereira. The frustration extends beyond the pitch and towards executive chairman Jeff Shi and owners Fosun, who were once again the focus of supporter unrest after Flemming’s opening goal.
Wolves now face an urgent need for leadership, clarity and improvement. Their fightback showed character, yet the collapse at the end reflected a lack of control and game management. With no league win in sight and the table becoming more unforgiving, the next fixtures feel increasingly critical.
Burnley, meanwhile, will take confidence from a gritty, composed performance that demonstrated resolve and belief. They were brave in attack, disciplined under pressure and rewarded for staying competitive until the final seconds. Parker’s men climb to 16th, a position that gives them a platform to build upon.
The Premier League often punishes lapses in concentration and rewards resilience. Wolves 2-3 Burnley was a clear example. For Wolves, the road to recovery looks steep. For Burnley, this may be the result that ignites their season.
