FLW reveals Cameron Archer’s wage at Southampton as the Baggies eye up a summer swoop.

West Brom have attacked the summer transfer window early with James Morrison at the helm.

The Baggies kicked off their spending with the addition of forward Barney Stewart from Falkirk, then announcing the arrival of Liverpool defender Carter Pinnington, although the former Reds man will originally be placed into Albion’s U21’s setup for development.

The Baggies’ third and latest signing is of exciting Chelsea youngster Jimmy-Jay Morgan.

The England U20 international, like Stewart, has penned a four-year contract at The Hawthorns, with Albion spending an up-front fee of £1.3m, while add-ons could take it to as high as £4m.

It’ll be a surprise for Baggies fans to see the club starting the transfer window in such proactive fashion, with Morrison clearly keen on getting fresh faces into the building as early as possible, so they can have a full pre-season and shoot out of the traps from matchday one.

Of course, despite three quick signings, the work is far from done for this Albion squad, with many more players needed to bolster each department and ensure the club has a strong chance of finishing towards the top end of the Championship table.

And the next port of call for Albion could well be a further addition to the forward line, with journalist Steve Tudgay claiming the Baggies are in the market for Southampton outcast Cameron Archer.

However, with his previous pedigree of netting regularly at Championship level for Middlesbrough and Preston North End, it could still be a coup for the Baggies, who are in desperate need of further firepower given Daryl Dike is departing on a free transfer, while Josh Maja is yet to commit his future.

With this in mind, FLW reveals Archer's weekly wage at Southampton and how much West Brom may need to pay to lure the 24-year-old to The Hawthorns.

We must stress all wage figures listed in this article are ESTIMATES made by Capology.

Cameron Archer’s weekly Southampton wage amid West Brom interest

The signing of Cameron Archer would be a statement of intent by West Brom that they want to be back in promotion contention after an unexpected relegation battle last term.

However, a stumbling block to this deal could be wages, with Capology showing that Cameron Archer is one of the higher earners at Southampton, coming in as a tied second for the biggest wage at St Mary’s.

Archer is believed to be earning £40,000 a week on the South Coast, with ex-West Brom academy graduate Finn Azaz the top earner at the club on £50,000 per week.

Archer has the same salary as the likes of Alex McCarthy, Mads Roerslev and Jack Stephens, so it’s hardly surprising to see the Saints entertain an exit given his performances aren’t mirroring such a handsome pay packet.

Cameron Archer could thrive in a different environment

At 24, there’s no doubt Cameron Archer is still an exciting forward with lots of potential, and his previous Championship goalscoring exploits, mainly at Middlesbrough, will excite West Brom supporters that he can get back to those levels.

While Archer should have been a regular starter for many second tier teams last term, he found himself in a position where the Saints had an abundance of quality forward options, which forced him to make just 11 starts over the course of the campaign.

That will have undoubtedly dented his confidence, so it seems best for all parties that he moves on and tries to rebuild his career elsewhere.

And moving to The Hawthorns could well be the perfect place, with Albion desperately needing a reliable goalscorer, while there would be plenty more opportunities to play given boss James Morrison prefers to play a two-striker setup - a system that helped the Baggies go on a 10-game unbeaten run during his interim spell.

Given the Baggies’ fast start to the summer transfer window, they seem to be a club who have a point to prove this coming season, and that could well be an attractive proposition for players to make the move to The Hawthorns over the coming weeks and months.

If Archer does make the move back to the Midlands, then you would expect him to get back to being a potent force at Championship level, and it could well be a signing that propels Albion back into the promotion conversation.
