FC Barcelona continue to move forward with one of the most ambitious stadium projects in European football as the renovation of the Spotify Camp Nou progresses.
The iconic venue has long been a symbol of the club’s history and identity, and the current works aim to modernize facilities, improve fan experiences, and create a stadium capable of hosting major events for decades to come.
Fans have already returned to the stands in recent months, witnessing the team play its home matches in a partially completed arena. Many areas, including key sections such as the third tier, VIP boxes, and the roof, remain under construction, with full capacity yet to be achieved.
The club has also been working closely with supporters’ groups to reinstate the Grada d’Animació in the Gol Sud, a dedicated section for fan animation, requiring permissions from both the Barcelona City Council and the Mossos d’Esquadra.
While these developments represent significant milestones, FC Barcelona are also facing financial and logistical challenges. According to Rac 1 (via SPORT), the club has now exceeded the original budget of €960 million for the renovation of Camp Nou in partnership with Limak.
Current estimates indicate that the final cost may rise by an additional €200 to €300 million. To manage the overrun, the club plans to draw on contingency funds and part of the €1.5 billion loan secured from Goldman Sachs.
In the coming days, a new inspection is scheduled as part of Phase 1C of the stadium reopening. If approved, the stadium could welcome up to 62,000 spectators, including areas of the Gol Nord that have remained closed.
Meanwhile, preparations continue for the return of the Grada d’Animació, ensuring that fan energy and traditions remain at the heart of the club’s home matches.
Barça remains hopeful that these combined efforts will allow for a fuller stadium experience for supporters in the upcoming home clashes from mid-March onward.
