Still waiting for his big break with the Eagles of Carthage, Sebastian Tounekti could well be Tunisia’s surprise package at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The 23-year-old winger took a major step forward this summer, leaving Hammarby IF to join Celtic Glasgow. In just two appearances for his new Scottish club, he has already impressed, playing a key role in the emphatic 4-0 League Cup win over Patrick Thistle.
This resurgence could send a strong message to Sami Trabelsi. Tunisia’s head coach is closely monitoring the Tromsø-born winger’s progress and may well make him one of his key weapons for the upcoming CAN 2025.
Having turned his back on the Norwegian national team, with whom he played at youth level, the former Bodø/Glimt player has logged just 15 minutes in a Tunisia shirt across three matches since his first call-up in March 2021.
In a position stacked with fierce competition from natural wingers like Elias Achouri, Elias Saad, and Naim Sliti, among others, Sebastian Tounekti knows exactly what lies ahead. He’ll have to fight hard to earn his ticket to Morocco.
