Facundo Buonanotte should be eligible to play for Leeds United in the FA Cup on Sunday, despite featuring for Chelsea in the previous round.

The Brighton loanee arrived in January after turning down Elland Road in the summer to join Chelsea, where minutes were scarce in a loaded squad. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, most of his action came in the domestic cups.

He started the 5-1 third-round win over Charlton Athletic in early January, registering one assist before being withdrawn after 68 minutes. Under previous rules he would have been cup-tied for Leeds.

Ahead of 2025/26, the FA relaxed cup-tied regulations, allowing a player to represent a maximum of two clubs in the competition. That can be split between qualifying and the FA Cup proper, or across two teams in the proper. They can only play for one club in any given round.

That change means Buonanotte’s Chelsea appearance should not make him ineligible for Leeds’ fourth-round trip to Birmingham City.

With rotation expected at St Andrew’s, the Argentine could be in line for a first Leeds start as he looks to establish himself under Daniel Farke.
