Carlos Corberán says Lucas Beltrán remains sidelined with inflammation of his patellar tendon, with no return date set. The Valencia head coach spoke on Saturday ahead of Sunday’s matchday 27 game with Deportivo Alavés at 21:00.

According to Superdeporte, the striker has already sat out the past three fixtures. He was unavailable from days before the derby at La Cerámica against Villarreal, missed Osasuna last weekend, and will also be out on Sunday.

Corberán underlined the uncertainty around a problem that hinges on the player’s pain tolerance. Tendon irritation is very painful and it stops Beltrán from starting, stopping and making explosive actions.

He said the forward is receiving different treatments, including EPIs and shock waves, to help him cope with physical loads. Beltrán was on the pitch today but training apart from the group. Corberán added that he hopes the evolution is positive and that they can count on him next week.

For now there is no date marked for his return, with the next few days expected to dictate whether he gains options to reappear at the Carlos Tartiere against Real Oviedo.

The coach also confirmed a first call-up for right-back Renzo Saravia, who is in better condition after joining as a free agent.
