Carrascal’s repeat reds match 2026 goal tally as Flamengo weigh new punishment | OneFootball

Carrascal was sent off after 20 minutes as Flamengo lost 3-0 to Palmeiras at the Maracanã on Saturday. He has apologised publicly.

According to Globo.com, it was his third red in a little over four months since his season debut on 21 January. He had earlier been dismissed against Corinthians in the Supercopa do Brasil for an elbow on Breno Bidon, and in the Brasileiro Fla-Flu for a scissors tackle on Guga. His 2026 reds now match his three goals, against Vasco, Cruzeiro and Grêmio.

The pattern predates Flamengo. With River Plate he was sent off against Palmeiras in the 2021 Libertadores semi-final first leg, when trailing 2-0 at home for striking Gabriel Menino off the ball, after which Palmeiras added a third. In 2020, he came on versus Banfield, set up a goal in a 2-0 win, then saw red in stoppage time for aggression.

At Dynamo Moscow in 2023, he was dismissed for a second yellow in a 1-0 Russian Cup win over Zenit. In May last year, shortly before joining Flamengo, he received a straight red in a 3-1 league victory against Krylya Sovetov.

Flamengo have already fined him twice for earlier reds, which brought a four-match ban at the STJD. He is expected to be punished again by the club, while coach Leonardo Jardim said there was no malice, only recklessness. The midfielder must return to the tribunal soon and risks a longer suspension as a repeat offender.

Team-mate Léo Pereira said he spoke to the squad, expressed regret and stressed it is vital to keep 11 players on the pitch for 90 minutes. Last year he enjoyed a good run at Flamengo, but it has not continued in 2026. He is on Colombia’s provisional World Cup list and has a strong chance of making the final squad.
