Léo Pereira said Jorge Carrascal apologised, head down, after the red card that proved decisive in Flamengo’s 3-0 defeat to Palmeiras.
According to Coluna Do Fla, the defender, one of the team’s captains, was the only Flamengo player to address the media after the match. He noted that no one enters a game aiming to be sent off and that Carrascal had been helping with goals, assists and flair.
Pereira called it an unfortunate moment that is weighing on the Colombian’s mind. He stressed the squad will rally round him, describing Carrascal as a positive, decisive figure whose quality they rely on in big games.
After full-time, Carrascal posted an apology to supporters on social media, saying he never intended to catch the Palmeiras player and lamenting the result in a meeting of the competition’s leaders. He spoke of frustration and of going home with a broken heart over the incident.
Carrascal should make his last Flamengo appearance before the World Cup on Tuesday 26, against Cusco of Peru in the sixth round of the Copa Libertadores at the Maracanã, with kick-off at 21:30 Brasília time.
