Celtic winger Marco Tilio left the pitch in tears after the young attacker suffered a recurrence of a hamstring injury. The 23-year-old is currently on loan with Melbourne City from the Scottish Champions as he looks to recapture the form that helped him make the move to Glasgow.
After Tilio scored the winner in the opening day with over Newcastle Jets, City were beaten by rivals Melbourne Victory meaning they were eyeing a bounce-back victory against Western United. Unfortunately for Tilio, he was forced from the field after just 39 minutes.
Manager Aurelio Vidmar said that it was likely a hamstring but perhaps not as bad as the issue he arrived at Celtic with.
“Tils looks like a hamstring… he said he felt a spasm in the hamstring and feels like it’s not as bad as it was last year.”
Tilio joined Celtic in a deal worth £2m last summer but after just six months, the Australian returned to Melbourne City on a loan deal. The attacker was confirmed to remain with the A-League side for the 2024/25 campaign.
The wide player only made two appearances for Celtic but boasts impressive numbers for City, scoring 22 goals and 19 assists in 91 appearances. The form Down Under definitely earned the player the move but injuries hampered him from making an impact. Brendan admitted that the player was struggling to adapt to the training at Lennoxtown. Nicolas Kũhn’s displays have shown exactly what type of player that Brendan wants to have playing on the right. Even Tilio said that he hopes that he can find form so that he can either earn a move to Europe or seal a return to Celtic.
