The Celtic manager acknowledged that training time will not be heavy-duty, as only a small number of his senior players will remain at Lennoxtown over the next week or so.

When asked on Celtic FC’s official YouTube channel about whether he is keen to spend more time working on the training pitch during the international break, Rodgers said: “It is, but there won’t be so much because a lot of the players will be away.”

“It’s not like you have the whole squad and you have them for two weeks before Dundee.”

Rodgers added: “A lot of them will go away. Some of them will recover a little bit. But we’ll be ready for Dundee and on the back of a really good feeling from today.”

“We’ll look forward to a wee bit of a rest, but get to work and then we’ll be ready in a couple of weeks.”

A boost for Rodgers comes with Alistair Johnston’s imminent return, as the Canadian defender is set to resume full training ahead of the Scottish Premiership encounter against Dundee a week on Sunday.

The 26 year-old has been a massive miss down the right-hand side, but academy graduate Colby Donovan has stepped up and has shown he can be relied upon if needed for games in Scotland and the Europa League.

Having been out with a hamstring problem since August, the right-back is now close to full fitness and likely to be available once the season resumes.

With important games on the horizon both domestically and in Europe — among them a top-of-the-table meeting at Tynecastle in three weeks’ time — Celtic will be hoping the international break gives their players a chance to recharge and that those representing their countries come back injury-free.
