Juventus simply refused to give in on their Champions League opener, as Dusan Vlahovic scored twice and assisted Lloyd Kelly for 4-4 with Borussia Dortmund after a Kenan Yildiz stunner.
The Bianconeri had won their opening three Serie A games, including Saturday’s chaotic 4-3 victory over rivals Inter. Francisco Conceicao and Edon Zhegrova were back on the bench, so only Fabio Miretti and Arek Milik missed out, but Igor Tudor made some surprising changes. Andrea Cambiaso returned after a two-match Serie A ban, with Lois Openda getting his first start. Dortmund were without Emre Can, Fabio Silva, Niklas Süle, Pascal Gross, Nico Schlotterbeck, Aaron Anselmino and Julien Duranville, while Salih Ozcan and Patrick Drewes were not on the UEFA list.

Khephren Thuram’s deflected long-range strike was desperately fingertipped round the near top corner by Gregor Kobel, with Lloyd Kelly nodding over from the resulting set play.
Openda’s back-heel flick from a corner hit the side-netting and Gleison Bremer, who was captain of Juventus this evening, fired wide on the half-volley.
Although Borussia Dortmund had far more possession, Juve created the chances, a Kenan Yildiz volley charged down and Jonathan David firing just over from the edge of the area, while Openda’s cross-shot was smothered at the near post.
There was controversy when Waldemar Anton with his hand straight up over his head connected with a Kenan Yildiz corner before the Kelly header, but it’s possible the Juventus man fouled his marker too. Play was halted moments later for a David offside as he prodded the finish straight at the goalkeeper.
Borussia Dortmund’s first genuine chance came straight after the restart, as a long ball caught the Juve defence out, so Michele Di Gregorio rushed off his line and managed to get something on the Maximilian Beier finish from a tight angle to push it onto the upright.

Moments later, the Bianconeri were again surprised and it proved crucial, as Felix Nmecha pounced on a loose ball and Adeyemi drilled hard and low into the far bottom corner from the edge of the area.
There was almost a second when Weston McKennie stumbled as the through ball released Serhou Guirassy, forcing Di Gregorio to rush off his line for the desperate save from point-blank range.

Julian Ryerson threw himself in the way of a Cambiaso volley in the box, but Juventus got the equaliser with a magnificent right-foot curler into the far top corner from Kenan Yildiz. It was so reminiscent of the one his hero Alessandro Del Piero had scored against the same opponents in 1995.

However, the enthusiasm lasted barely 60 seconds until Borussia Dortmund restored their lead, Adeyemi with his back to goal laying it off for Nmecha to bend first time from the edge of the D with the inside of the right boot.
Dusan Vlahovic came off the bench and made an immediate impact, running onto the Kenan Yildiz through ball to beat Kobel one-on-one and draw Juventus level again.

Di Gregorio made a howler to gift the third Dortmund goal, allowing a Yan Couto snapshot to squirm through his gloves at the base of the near post after Marcel Sabitzer had robbed Thuram.
On the other hand, Kobel was crucial to prevent Juventus making it 3-3, his stunning fingertip save pushing a Kenan Yildiz scorcher onto the upright from outside the box.
It still wasn’t over, as on the counter-attack Guirassy’s shot squirmed under Kelly and the referee awarded a penalty for handball. Following a row over who would step up, Ramy Bensebaini converted sending Di Gregorio the wrong way.

Edon Zhegrova got his debut and a shot was charged down, but in stoppages Vlahovic got in front of his marker to fire in at the near post on a Pierre Kalulu cross from the right.
Deep into stoppages, Vlahovic floated a cross from the right to find Lloyd Kelly for a diving header that sent the crowd wild for 4-4. There was a long pause for the VAR check on a potential offside, followed by another huge cheer as it was given the all-clear.
