One of the biggest transfer sagas involving FC Barcelona in the summer window was Chelsea’s attempt to poach Fermin Lopez. The Spanish midfielder made it very clear that he wanted to continue at the Catalan club.
The fact that Barcelona even considered a sale feels astonishing now. Fermin has become one of the stars of Hansi Flick’s team and has already reached 20 goal contributions across all competitions. It is still mid-January, and the value of having someone like Fermin in the ranks is obvious.
With his importance only growing as the season has progressed, any doubts over his long-term role at the club have effectively been erased. That rapid rise has not gone unnoticed across Europe. Now, according to Fichajes, Chelsea are prepared to offer €100 million to sign the Spanish attacking midfielder, an increase on their summer offer.

Chelsea’s interest is well defined. They see the Spaniard as the perfect profile to add to Liam Rosenior’s roster in London and believe he has all the qualities to become a long-term star in the Premier League.
However, it does not matter how tempted Barcelona may be or how much money Chelsea are willing to offer. The fact is that signing someone like Fermin on the market is close to impossible, and the Catalan club should keep him at all costs.
Fermin and Olmo are perfectly complementary profiles in the attacking midfield role. The former brings pure explosiveness, while the latter offers intelligence, poise, and technique. Different game states require different profiles.
Chelsea, or any other club for that matter, can park their interest elsewhere. Fermin is Barcelona, and that is how it is going to be for the foreseeable future.
