Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Kim Min-jae from Bayern Munich as they look to strengthen their defensive options ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

The Blues sent Nicolas Jackson on loan to the Bavarian giants last summer, and the two clubs could be set for further transfer dealings.

Italian giants Inter Milan and AC Milan are also monitoring the situation of the 29-year-old centre-back, although it remains unclear whether the defender is keen on leaving Bayern.

Chelsea keen on Kim Min-jae?

Bild Journalist Christian Falk recently told CFBayern that both Chelsea FC and Tottenham Hotspur are showing strong interest in the South Korean international.

Chelsea attempted to sign Jeremy Jacquet from Stade Rennais during the January transfer window, but the defender ultimately opted to join Liverpool FC instead.

Despite already possessing several defensive options — including Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana, Trevoh Chalobah, Tosin Adarabioyo, Benoit Badiashile, Josh Acheampong, Jorrel Hato and Axel Disasi — Chelsea are still considering adding an experienced centre-back.

With Colwill currently sidelined through a long-term injury and uncertainty surrounding Disasi’s future, Kim has emerged as a potential target for the London club.

Kim Min-jae’s situation at Bayern Munich

Min-jae has made 12 starts in the Bundesliga this season, while also featuring five times from the bench. In addition, he has made six appearances in the UEFA Champions League.

The former Napoli defender has slipped down the pecking order behind Dayot Upamecano and Jonathan Tah, though he remains comfortable with his current role at Bayern.

The defender is under contract with the German champions until 2028, and Bayern are not actively looking to sell him. However, the club could be willing to enter discussions if they receive an offer in the region of €30m (£26m) to €40m (£34.5m).

“It is TRUE: Inter Milan are interested in Kim Min-jae. Inter, however, aren’t the only club; AC Milan are also watching the South Korean international. They’re thinking about Kim, but at the moment, I’m not sure if he himself wants a transfer. At the moment, he’s quite comfortable with his current role at Bayern Munich. Chelsea have also knocked on his door, but Bayern say they are fine with the situation. If there is an offer of €30m [£26m] or €40m [£34.5m], they can have talks, but there is no offer on the table. Kim Min-jae also has no intention of asking the club bosses for a transfer. So, at the moment, it’s a little bit quiet. But it’s true that these clubs are interested in him, as he’s doing a very good job at the moment as the backup defender behind Jonathan Tah and Dayot Upamecano.”
