Things are really moving at Chelsea now.
There was a spurt of sales a couple of weeks ago, then things went quiet.
Now it looks like there’s set to be another wave. We’ve just had news that Villareal have agreed terms to sign Renato Veiga from Chelsea for around €30m, and another defender who has been up for sale this summer looks set to join him.
The ever reliable Sacha Tavolieri has claimed that Bournemouth have started club to club talks with Chelsea over Axel Disasi.
He adds that this will be a loan with an option to buy.
Bournemouth have been devastated in the market this summer, losing 4 of last season’s back 5, including both central defenders. They have already replaced Kepa (who they had on loan from us) with Djordje Petrovic (signed from us). Now it looks like they may do further work on their absences with our spare parts.
Sacha Tavolieri’s Tweet about Bournemouth being in for Axel Disasi.
The “loan with option to buy” move didn’t work out too well last year – despite playing pretty regularly for Aston Villa, they didn’t want to take the Frenchman long term.
Bournemouth are a different proposition, although we fear there could still be the same outcome.
He couldn’t really be more different type of defender than Huijsen, but at this stage the Cherries just need numbers.
Disasi can be solid, and if the terms of the purchase aren’t too high, we can see him having a good season and being bought. The question is how much we want for him. We overpaid hugely in signing him at £39m in 2023, and while we won’t be getting that back, we will likely still be hoping for a major chunk of it.
