Chelsea have pulled an astonishing transfer U-turn on Nicolas Jackson’s move to Bayern Munich.

According to The Athletic, the Blues have called off the striker’s loan move to Bayern after Liam Delap suffered a hamstring injury in the 2-0 win against Fulham.

Delap was forced off the pitch just 14 minutes into the game and was replaced by academy graduate Tyrique George, who is expected to leave the club in the coming days.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca confirmed that Delap will be sidelined for up to eight weeks. The setback has forced Chelsea to reconsider their stance on Jackson’s imminent move.

The Senegalese striker is already in Germany for a medical ahead of joining the Bundesliga champions on a season-long loan with an optional purchase clause.

Chelsea had agreed a record-breaking £13 million loan deal with an option to buy for around £69m. But that agreement is now hanging by a thread.

The Blues have reportedly informed Bayern that they will not be going ahead with the transfer and have instructed Jackson to return to the English capital.

With Delap out injured, Joao Pedro is the only fit striker. Chelsea suffered a similar situation last season when injuries to Jackson and Marc Guiu left them short on striking options.

Maresca is determined to avoid a similar situation this time around. However, the striker has refused Chelsea’s request to return to England.

Jackson had fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea after the arrivals of Delap and Pedro.

He hardly featured in pre-season and was also left out of the squad for the 5-1 thrashing of West Ham United at the London Stadium.

Jackson already has his mind set on a new adventure in Germany, especially with the 2026 FIFA World Cup on the horizon.
