Enzo Maresca fears Liam Delap could miss up to eight weeks with the hamstring injury he suffered against Fulham.
The striker was forced off in the first half of Chelsea’s 2-0 win over their west London rivals after pulling up when chasing the ball.
And Maresca says it looks a serious one.
“It was his hamstring, (running) at full speed, hopefully it’s not long but in these kind of injuries it can be six to eight weeks,” he told TNT Sports.
Chelsea came out victorious in a game dominated by refereeing controversy which saw Josh King’s early goal ruled out for Fulham, before Chelsea were awarded a penalty with the assistance of VAR to score their second through Enzo Fernandez following Joao Pedro’s opener.
“We were not good enough in the first half but we were brilliant in the second half,” Maresca said.
“First half, we didn’t keep the ball, we didn’t win duels, which are the kind of things you need, and second half we did the right things.
Asked if Chelsea were lucky today, he replied: “I don’t think so because the foul is a foul and the penalty is a penalty, so for me, it’s quite clear.”
The injury to Delap means Nicolas Jackson’s proposed move to Bayern Munich looks set to be scrapped.
Jackson had travelled to Germany ahead of signing for the club but now looks set to return to Chelsea.
