Chelsea’s Malo Gusto sees PSG tie as ‘good opportunity’ to increase France World Cup chances

March could be a crucial month for Malo Gusto (22). The Frenchman has a chance to make an argument for more game time with Les Bleus, and Chelsea’s match against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night could be the perfect vitrine.

Gusto has become a regular in the France squad. However, the Chelsea full-back still sees his game time severely limited due to the presence of Jules Koundé, who, converted to right-back, has become indispensable both for club and for country.

However, Koundé recently suffered a minor injury, one that will rule him out of the upcoming international break, the final one before this summer’s FIFA World Cup. As a result, there is increased scrutiny on Gusto’s performances.

PSG will be a ‘good test’ for Chelsea

Didier Deschamps will likely be keeping a close eye on Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League match between PSG and Chelsea, which Gusto has described as a “good opportunity” to show that he can be more than just a back-up for Les Bleus.

He added, “My objective is always the same: to show that I can play (at the very highest level) and that I have the qualities to do so. It will be a good test.”

However, there is no guarantee that Gusto will start against the reigning European champions. Reece James could instead start at right-back.
