The Athletic’s weekly Deal Sheet is always full of juicy new bits of information, especially when it comes to a club like Chelsea who get very deep into the transfer markets, both with signings and sales.
This week’s edition focuses on our search for a winger in terms of signings, but also has a good chunk on this week’s headline maker, Nicolas Jackson.
After finishing last season by getting sent off against Newcastle, Jackson just got another crazy red in a game against Flamengo at the Club World Cup. That was the last straw for many fans – but how do the club feel?
“Chelsea are not actively looking to sell but they do not regard him in the same ‘untouchable’ bracket as Cole Palmer and Moises Caicedo,” the piece reads.
As ever, there’s more to a transfer than just a team wanting to sell. Given that Chelsea still clearly regard his potential as very high, and have him locked up on a contract until 2033, there’s no chance they accept anything less than premium money for him. And can any of the interested teams offer that sort of money? It doesn’t sem like it.
The interest from Juventus and Napoli has been “dismissed” because “Chelsea do not think they can afford the 24-year-old.”
The Premier League and Saudi Pro League teams who are interested could both summon the cash necessary, but that interest sounds very distant and very vague.
Right now, it seems to us that nobody is going to be offering enough to buy Jackson, even if Chelsea are theoretically open to a sale. The chances are he will get another season to show he’s improved his eye for goal and his temperament.
