James Beadle coming into the starting XI in replace of Ryan Allsop has been a popular decision amongst Birmingham City supporters
Many Birmingham City fans are in agreement with Chris Davies over his decision to change personnel in the goalkeeper position.
After a spectacular season last time out for the Blues, with the club toting up a record 111 points in League One and making a quick return to the Championship, life as a Birmingham fan has been pretty sweet in recent times and the club look to make it even sweeter this season with their sights set on a back-to-back promotion this campaign.
In the early stages, after nine games played, the Blues sit comfortably in mid-table with a wealth of talent in their ranks, such as the likes of Jay Stansfield, Damarai Gray, and Patrick Roberts, not to mention the heavy financial backing from their owners.
One area, however, that has cause for concern is the number one spot in between the sticks. With Davies most commonly opting for 33-year-old Ryan Allsop, who played 38 times for the Blues in their promotion season last year, question marks over his name have arisen after some lackluster performances.
Waiting in the wings is the 21-year-old James Beadle, who was handed his league debut for the club last night in their 1-1 draw away to Wrexham - Birmingham City fans are all saying the same thing.
After starting the first eight Championship games of the season, Allsop looked nailed on to be the main man for Birmingham City at the bottom end of the pitch. However, after some sub-par performances by his standards, with a mere save percentage of 50% and only two clean sheets to his name, it was clear to see that Davies had to shake up the competition for the starting spot in goal.
Despite Blue fans wanting more than the point they got against Hollywood rivals Wrexham, one man that stood out was the newly introduced Beadle, who made three saves on the night to nullify the threat posed by the Red Dragons frontline of Kieffer Moore, Josh Windass, and Lewis O'Brien.
Beadle is no stranger to Championship football after being Sheffield Wednesday's first-choice goalkeeper last year and could for sure be rewarded with regular game-time once again if he is to firstly be given the opportunity, and secondly keep up his key performances on a consistent basis.
It may be time for a permanent change in the Birmingham goal, and Blues fans sure seem to think so too.
With the 2004-born Beadle entering the starting lineup for Birmingham last night for the first time in the league, his Championship debut for the Blues was met by a healthy reception via X, with fans quick to express their feelings towards the team selection as well as the overall team performance on the night.
One Birmingham City fan praised the young goalkeeper by saying: "Beadle needs to stay in the side now, [he] did more than enough and looked a lot more solid than Allsop has this season. Give the kid a good run now."
Another Blues fan stressed how important Beadle was in earning a point on the road by saying: "Right decision to play Beadle, we'd be out of this game if Allsop was playing."
With Beadle being given a tough ask by Davies to step up to the plate against Wrexham, another fan praised the goalkeeper's efforts and deserves more opportunities under Davies going forward. One Birmingham fan said: "Credit to Beadle last night, thrown right into the fire in a tough away fixture and think he did more than enough to start the next game."
