AS Roma go head-to-head against Como in Serie A at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia on Sunday in what promises to be a fascinating clash between an ambitious newly-promoted side and one of Italy’s traditional giants.
Como approaches this fixture with only a few injury concerns, though there are still some selection doubts for manager Cesc Fabregas ahead of the clash with Roma.
The main confirmed absentee for the hosts is defender Jayden Addai, who remains sidelined with injury and will not be available for selection.
Midfielder Maximo Perrone is also a doubt for the match due to a fitness issue. At the same time, winger Assane Diao is another player being assessed ahead of kick-off after struggling with an injury problem in recent weeks.
Goalkeeper Lucas Butez is expected to retain his place between the posts, while the defensive line could feature Van der Brempt, Jacobo Ramon, Robin Kempf and Alberto Moreno.
In midfield, Sergi Roberto and Lucas Da Cunha are likely to provide the base in a double pivot. Further forward, Martin Baturina and Nico Paz have both been influential creative outlets throughout the campaign and are expected to play key roles in supporting the attack.
Greek striker Tasos Douvikas should lead the line, with the forward already having nine goals in the league this season.
Roma travel to Como dealing with several injury concerns that could influence manager Gian Piero Gasperini’s team selection.
The Giallorossi will definitely be without star forward Paulo Dybala, who remains sidelined with a knee injury and is not expected to return in time for the match.
Striker Artem Dovbyk is also unavailable due to injury. Ireland international Evan Ferguson has also been ruled out for the remainder of the season.
In addition, Matias Soule is currently dealing with a pubalgia problem and remains doubtful for the encounter.
Roma are also set to be without defender Evan Ndicka, who is suspended after accumulating yellow cards.
With several attacking players unavailable, Roma will rely heavily on Lorenzo Pellegrini and Donyell Malen. The latter had already equalled Soule’s goal tally with six goals scored since his arrival.
Como enter the match in impressive form and are currently enjoying one of their best runs of the season. The Lombardy side have won their last three matches in Serie A, including a 2-1 victory away at Cagliari which further strengthened their push for a top-four finish. They remain unbeaten in their last five matches across competitions.
Roma have experienced a more inconsistent run of form in recent weeks and have struggled to maintain momentum. The capital club have managed only one victory in their last five matches across all competitions, highlighting some difficulties in maintaining attacking fluency. Their most recent outing ended in a 1-1 draw with Bologna in the Europa League, a result that keeps their European hopes alive but also reflects their recent struggles to secure victories.
