Denzel Dumfries has rallied his Inter Milan teammates ahead of Sunday’s crucial Scudetto run-in fixture at Como, highlighting the squad’s collective leadership quality in the absence of injured captain Lautaro Martinez.

The Dutch wing-back spoke to DAZN pitchside before kick-off, via FCInterNews, delivering a focused and determined pre-match message.

Asked whether Napoli’s earlier draw made this a potential match-point for the Nerazzurri, Dumfries was measured.

“I would not say so – we saw the other results but nothing changes for us. We are focused on this match. We must win.”

Antonio Conte’s side drew 1-1 with Parma earlier today, giving Inter a golden opportunity to extend their lead at the summit of Serie A.

Dumfries Backs Inter Milan Leaders Acerbi & Barella To Step Up At Como

On whether he was ready to take on some of Lautaro’s leadership burden, Dumfries was characteristically team-first.

“Yes but we have many leader players in this group,” he said. “Acerbi, Barella… We must show it tonight.”

Indeed, the emphasis on collective responsibility rather than any single individual reflects the mentality Chivu has built within the squad this season.

Inter will need their leaders to step up in Lautaro’s absence, especially with a golden chance to extend their lead at the top of the league.

On Como themselves, Dumfries was respectful but confident.

“They have a team with many technical players, we expect an open match because they have quality and must be respected. However, we have a strong team. We are ready.”

Dumfries himself only recently returned to the Inter squad after sitting out a lengthy injury absence.

Speaking afterwards to Inter TV, via FCInterNews, Dumfries said: “All games are tough, we’ve worked well and we want to win tonight. We saw the result between Parma and Napoli, of course, but for us it doesn’t change anything. We have to win.”

“I’m fine. We’re in a period where we can win trophies. I’ve gotten back into my rhythm, and we’re always looking ahead.”
